Violence Against Women |
Liberal feminism applies to the topic of women in law enforcement. The main idea of liberal feminism is gender justice. Gender justice is closely related to gender equality in the workforce. You can be what you want to be in terms of a career path.
The separate spheres also relates to women and law enforcement because it lists that men and women should be separate in terms of certain social activities because of their differences in biological and psychological structures. Feminists try to shy away from this thinking because it limits females in terms of the job market and equality. Women have been viewed as less-superior than men. Law enforcement personnel are typically males because of the physical strain and risky situations that the job entails. Females, however, are rapidly gaining popularity in the law enforcement career. Studies are showing that females are able to perform in the career's job duties just as well as males do. This changes the viewpoint of gender discrepancies between the job market and gender norms. |
The term "violence against women" was not a known term in recent history, but there has always been some form of violence specifically toward women. Women were seen as the property of men and only put on this earth for housework, bearing and taking care of children, and to make her husband happy.
Radical feminism views male power and privilege as the bases of social relations. Females are viewed as inferior or weak as compared to males. The violence against women is closely associated to radical feminism and the abuse that most victims take are given to them by a superior male. This notion of violence against women contributes to the degradation and physical abuse that they entail. As a society we need to view women as equal to men and figure out how to reduce the amount of female victims there are in cases of abuse. |
